What's Happening

  • The Global EdTech Alliance of Alliances (AoA) was launched on November 10, 2025. The AoA, which EdTech East Africa is part of, is a new collaborative connecting regional ecosystems with multilateral partners and policy makers. Its purpose is to create a credible, unified voice in digital education and to accelerate practical knowledge exchange that is grounded in inclusion, safety, and measurable impact.   • The School Leadership Matters Summit 2025 (November 4-6, 2025) brought together educators, researchers, policymakers, students, and funders from across Latin America, Africa, and Asia to reimagine what effective school leadership looks like in the Global South.   • Samsung has launched an Innovation Campus at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to equip Kenyan youth with practical skills in Coding and Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Cybersecurity skills. Read more.
  • The African Union International Centre for Girls and Women's Education (AU CIEFFA) held a continental workshop in Nairobi from November 25-28, 2025 to discuss “Empowering Girls in STEAM: Innovating for Inclusive and Gender-Responsive Education in Africa". The initiative aims to amplify advocacy for girls’ STEAM education and the #AfricaEducatesHER Campaign, while showcasing grassroots efforts by young women advancing education in their communities.   • The AI for Education Summit (November) brought EdTech practitioners and leaders to Nairobi to address the potential of AI in transforming education in Africa. Were you in attendance? What was your biggest takeaway?
  • What comes to mind when someone mentions an EdTech app? RESPECT is conducting some research on how EdTech Apps are framed and perceived. Read more here as you fill the survey.
  • We hosted the second edition of the Nairobi EdTech Meetup on Wednesday, 26 November, 2025. It was an incredible evening spent with EdTech Founders who showcased their EdTech solutions and received valuable feedback to improve their innovations. Join Elimu-Soko’s Launch Webinar on10th December 2025

The webinar titled "Africa's Public Education Sector: 2025 Stock-Take and 2026 Planning" will launch the Teaching Innovation Lab (TIL) Facility — designed to pilot and scale cost-effective, evidence-based teacher training innovations within public education systems across Africa. The facility will fund pilots that improve foundational literacy and numeracy instruction within the fiscal constraints that African governments face. RSVP: info@elimu-soko.org

Habari Reader, The world is very volatile right now and I am worried about asking how you are. So my greeting today is very functional. It is the polite salutation you give and hope that someone says hello only and moves on because you are not sure how you can deal with the answer you get. It is interesting that the literal translation of habari is news and I am in a space where news is distressing and I’d like to stay in a cocoon of no news.
