Habari Reader,
The world is very volatile right now and I am worried about asking how you are. So my greeting today is very functional. It is the polite salutation you give and hope that someone says hello only and moves on because you are not sure how you can deal with the answer you get.
It is interesting that the literal translation of habari is news and I am in a space where news is distressing and I’d like to stay in a cocoon of no news. But, we can’t hide forever because life happens every day and it’s important to notice, and to share a message of hope and joy when we can as much as we extend a hand to those who need it most.

Remember the EdTech Gumzo podcast I hinted about in the last newsletter? Well!!! I am so excited to announce that we released the first episode of our Founders’ Series. iHUB, in partnership with The Mastercard Foundation, is calling for applications for the 4th cohort of the EdTech Fellowship in Kenya. Apply if you are creating (i) solutions for learners living with disabilities, (ii) solutions for refugees and displaced persons (RDPS) and underserved or rural communities (iii) solutions focused on young girls and women (iv) solutions focused on education and skills data.

AFRISE Challenge 2026 - $600,000 in technology credits
The AFRISE Challenge provides an opportunity for high potential African youth and student entrepreneurs to rise up in their entrepreneurial journey, and contribute to local and regional economic development by becoming job creators. Open to youth entrepreneurs aged 18–35 in Nigeria, Uganda, Morocco, Kenya, Rwanda, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, and Senegal solving challenges in education, financial services, agriculture and other sectors.
