Hello, how are you?

My name is Nyarinda, the new Community Engagement Lead at EdTech East Africa.

I am nervous about this very first letter to you and excited too.

This newsletter features a round up of what's happening, opportunities, and resources in the EdTech Space in Africa.

What's Happening

  • Chimamanda released Dream Count to critical acclaim on 4 March 2025 worldwide. The publishers added an audio book read by the author. What does this mean for EdTech innovators in Africa creating audiobooks and platforms for storytelling? Let me know what you think by responding to this newsletter or our social media platforms.
  • Ian Wafula is the new host for the EdTech Mondays show. Catch him every last Monday of the month on NTV Kenya and YouTube as he moderates crucial conversations on EdTech in Kenya.

  • Hon. William Kabogo, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of ICT launched the Kenya National AI Strategy (2025-2030) at KICC, Nairobi on Thursday, 27 March. One of the flagship projects in the strategy involves integrating AI and data science education into the Kenyan school curricula at all levels. Let's chat on nyarinda@edtech-eastafrica.com about your involvement in revolutionising education with AI, and the KES 152 billion implementation budget.
  • Mathematics is not a compulsory subject in senior school in Kenya. This new directive by the government, was announced by Basic Education Principal Secretary, Belio Kipsang. Watch the news coverage here.
  • The Africa Children’s Summit 2025 is being hosted in South Africa from 4 - 7 April. The summit is a children-led convening that brings together African children to discuss matters that affect them and come up with an action plan on proposed solutions and advocate for their rights.
  • Gear up for the Central Kenya EdTech Summit on 25 April 2025, to participate in insightful discussions, EdTech workshops and networking with like-minded professionals. Register now!
